Goodwill Flips

Image
I purchased some things from goodwill for $2.99 and with a little paint and elbow grease I was able to flip then into some really cool pieces.  - I forgot to take a before picture of the Boo Candle holder unfortunately :( It just had some wire mesh that was painted and was flaking off behind the letters. I put stained glass behind it and painted it with glass paint.

Etsy Shop!

Hi! Just posting an update since I've had a lot going on the last month. I've now set up an Etsy shop and I listed my first Items as of Sep 1st! Super excited I have 10 items listed so far and going to be working on 9 more this month. I just have to wait for my first glass shipment to arrive. I also decided to try my Stained glass and Jewelry making as a full time job. It's been a lot of learning not only in still figuring out the in's and out's of Stained glass but Learning about Online sales and marketing. I'll try to keep posting updates and take some pictures and document more of my projects. :) If you'd like to check out my Etsy site I have the link posted here. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Baelfyr?ref=seller-platform-mcnav

Soldering Quick Tips

Soldering Quick Tips I'll update this as I come across more things as well. :) 1. Don't allow soldering tip to linger in any one place over the glass. This heats the glass and can cause the glass to crack. Also if you overexpose the copper foil to the heat it can damage the adhesive seal to the glass and you'll notice black goo coming out from under your solder. If you do need to touch up your soldering lines allow time for the glass to cool back down. 2. To remove Solder have the solder tip flat against the glass and then pull upwards. Then gently flick the solder beads onto a safe location...preferably away from your self and any exposed skin. 3. To Create Raised Solder lines have the tip vertical and pull the solder bead along your lines. 4. Be wary of to much flux within your lines as this can cause popping. So far I've found one dip into the flux (which I have place into the lid of my flux bottle so as not to contaminate the bottle) and then scrape the si...

My First Stained Glass Project - Beginner

Image
My First Stained Glass Project - Beginner Alright, here I'll detail my first project that was done in March and the tools I used. The steps go over multiple days depending on what time I had after work and weekends. Let me also caveat by saying that I'm aware now of the ignorance of my choices but live and learn eh? :P And I had fun regardless lol. So what the first thing everyone needs when starting a project? A plan or A Pattern to follow right? I checked out various downloadable patterns online and I just didn't care for any of the downloadable patterns that I found. They all seemed dated to me and I didn't feel like doing a light house or bird so in my infinite wisdom I did an internet search  and found a picture of a project that I liked ( https://www.etsy.com/listing/229310790/raindrop-suncatcher-stained-glass ) and then I used Rapid Resizer ( https://news.rapidresizer.com/ ) to make a line drawing of the pattern and then the ...

Introductions - Greetings!

Learning Stained Glass - Greetings Hi All! My name is Holly and I live in central Illinois. I work at a Dr.'s office as an Insurance and Billing Specialist but my true joy recently has been Stained Glass and Glass Art. I am by no means an expert since I've only started in March of this year lol but in my search for information online I couldn't find a lot of detailed information for beginners and unfortunately I appear to live no where near a Stained Glass supply store that would provide lessons. So I figure I would start this blog and detail the things I've made and techniques I've tried and liked. Hopefully it will help someone else along the way or at least be interesting...I hope. :)
