Soldering Quick Tips
Soldering Quick Tips
I'll update this as I come across more things as well. :)1. Don't allow soldering tip to linger in any one place over the glass. This heats the glass and can cause the glass to crack. Also if you overexpose the copper foil to the heat it can damage the adhesive seal to the glass and you'll notice black goo coming out from under your solder. If you do need to touch up your soldering lines allow time for the glass to cool back down.
2. To remove Solder have the solder tip flat against the glass and then pull upwards. Then gently flick the solder beads onto a safe location...preferably away from your self and any exposed skin.
3. To Create Raised Solder lines have the tip vertical and pull the solder bead along your lines.
4. Be wary of to much flux within your lines as this can cause popping. So far I've found one dip into the flux (which I have place into the lid of my flux bottle so as not to contaminate the bottle) and then scrape the side of the brush against the edge once works for quite a bit of solder lines but it depends on the size of your project. If too much flux is applied it will pop and possibly throw solder at you.
5. Solder on a Flat surface or if Soldering on an Edge keep the location you are soldering level so your hot Solder won't run and move to the wrong location creating a large bead.
6. Be sure to work outside or with a fume extractor so you don't breath in the toxic fumes. Long term exposure can cause asthma like symptoms and a hypersensitivity to flux fumes can happen. (I forgot a time or two when I was just doing a quick job and I breathed in the fumes and started coughing and had a wheezing feeling in my lungs that lasted about a day. No Bueno!)
